TasteFor

Helping a restaurant discovery app in beta

navigate their use case

Challenge & Opportunity

Last Fall, a friend of mine along with his childhood friends brought me into the fold to evaluate their beta app, TasteFor, and make recommendations.

The key differentiator of the concept was a Tinder-like swiping functionality featuring nearby restaurants to choose from that the founders assumed would resonate with millennials.

Specific challenges included:

  • Lack of conviction around the main user action or value proposition: order/delivery, reservation, or something else.

  • No insight-driven user research had been conducted.

  • There were 8 (too many) product owners, all with various assumptions and ideas for the direction of the app.

  • Uncertainty around adoption with Covid 19’s effect on restaurant business.

I decided to volunteer a quick week of my time to talk to real users of restaurant discovery platforms and share my findings and insights.
